An ideal touring base for the beautiful Solway coast, Hadrian’s Wall, the Eden valley, the Scottish borders, the north lakes and the great border city of Carlisle.
Carlisle offers a wide range of events throughout the year, from great live music shows, days at the races, special events and attractions in summer in the shopping pedestrian area, and of course the famous November fire show and the Carlisle Christmas market and lights. The Castle, Cathedral and Tullie House Museum are all well worth a visit.
Thurstonfield is on a main bus route into Carlisle. Thurstonfield village is in the “ barony of Burgh”. Burgh by Sands, a few miles away being famous as the place where Edward 1 died on the Solway marshes. There is a monument there to honour him. The coast from Burgh along the Solway is a designated part of the Hadrian’s Wall world heritage site. It’s also an amazing place to go bird watching.
